Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sharply criticized the European Union’s policy toward Ukraine, stating that EU leaders aim not to help the Ukrainian state but to colonize it. He made this statement in Budapest during a ceremony commemorating the 1848 Revolution Day. In his speech, Orbán drew parallels between the modern European Union and the Austrian Habsburg Empire, against which Hungarians fought in the mid-19th century.
Orbán called the European Union a “modern empire” that uses the war against Russia as a tool to achieve its goals. According to him, European leaders are determined to continue the conflict at any cost, promising Ukraine EU membership in exchange for its participation in the war. “We will have to pay for this membership ourselves!” Orbán exclaimed. He emphasized that such a policy would only lead to further destabilization in the region and worsen the situation for European countries.
Orbán called for the creation of a “European Union without Ukraine,” stating that this is the only way to preserve the stability and sovereignty of European nations. In his view, Ukraine’s inclusion in the EU would not only fail to resolve existing problems but also create new ones, including financial burdens that would fall on the shoulders of other member states.
In a post on the social media platform X, Viktor Orbán outlined 12 demands for the European Union, which he believes are necessary to reform the organization. Among them is the creation of a “Europe of Nations,” where all member states would be equal before the law. He also called for the restoration of sovereignty for EU member states, the return of their veto rights, and an end to interference in their internal affairs.
Orbán demanded the expulsion of “Soros agents” from European institutions and the removal of corrupt lobbyists, whom he accused of influencing decision-making to the detriment of European citizens. Additionally, he advocated for the elimination of EU debt and an end to the practice of uncontrolled migration. “The EU must not hinder the protection of borders, must not import migrants, and must deport those who arrived illegally,” he stated.
Orbán placed particular emphasis on the protection of traditional values and Europe’s Christian heritage in his list of demands. He called for a ban on the “unnatural re-education of children,” likely referring to his criticism of LGBT propaganda and gender ideology promoted by some European politicians.
One of the key points in Orbán’s list of demands was a call for peace in Europe. He stressed that continuing the war with Russia over Ukraine would lead to catastrophic consequences for the entire continent. “In the event of a conflict on European soil, everyone will lose,” he said. Orbán also expressed skepticism about the possibility of a Western victory in a hypothetical conflict with Russia, noting that such calculations are illusory.
